story inspired by the twilight zone

Jo felt like she was the only one who did not have big, exciting plans for New Year's Eve. She recalled the times when New Year's felt as if it were to be so extravagant and exciting. A time for all to get dressed to the 9's, and to party like it is 1999. This particular New Year's was an event within an uneventful magnitude of shattered proportions, it was expectant midnight kisses and champagne bubbles. Jo kept expecting for plans to manifest itself into her psyche, but lo and behold, that never happened. 6PM turned into 9 pm, 9 into 10, until finally, she poured herself a glass of wine and sat down to watch The Twilight Zone, which was running on all day for the next two days. A marathon of addictive shows that would leech and haunt into one's psyche. Psyche, the mind, soul and spirit, as opposed to the body. Jo got lost into the inner workings of Rob Serling, and his very well written, clever style. The Twilight Zone has a way to drill into the consciense, making one wonder if an episode was merely figurative. Jo sipped more wine whilst getting lost in the Twilight Zone, seeping into a hypnotic spiral, much like the spirals shown during the opening credits. Moving into a land of both shadow and dimensions, Jo became both entranced and entrenched by each more interesting episode. The common underlying theme was psyche, as if that word has befriended her and it was whispering in her ear throughout the night. Jo felt herself getting strangely hypnotized. Psyche. Moving into a land of both shadows and dimensions. The wine was warming her veins, constricting her from normal oxygen flowing through her blood.

The telephone rang. Jo still had a regular house phone, which looked just like old phones. The kind of phone where you have to manually dial the numbers. "Hello?"

The other side of the phone was not heard if one were in the room with Jo, all one would of seen was how Jo's stance immediantly changed. Her slack posture straightened and her eyes totally zoned out. Her speech became more of that style they used on old shows like the Twilight Zone. "Yes. Understood. I shall be on my way now. Over and out. Alpha Delta."

With that Jo hung up the phone. She then proceeded to go to the closet where she got her coat, her boots, and hat. She then went down the hall and into her closet, and she went above the clothing, where a box was. She opened the box and pulled out a semi-automatic gun. She pulled out a vial as well. Then she put on her coat and boots and hat and like that, she walked out the door.

At the stroke of midnight, everyone was too busy with their extravagant and exciting parties. At the stroke of midnight, no one saw the breaking news of a terrorist, a woman, who was shouting words, while shooting nerds. She had made her way to a bookstore. Media says she was obsessed with 'fake news', about how the bookstore was linked to an underground pedophile ring. Minutes later, police fatally shot her.

Jo just wanted an exciting New Years, yet she found that she crossed into the Twilight Zone. She then opened that vial and drank it.
