NYC marathon still on for the 4th

So the other day my dad told me they were still going to have the 26.5 marathon in NYC this Sunday. I didn't really think anything of it, except, really? I don't know? So I log into facebook. All my New York friends think its a bad idea, and I agree. Here is a letter which is circulating about facebook, (Kimmy posted it) shes up in brooklyn, scott is, john yanno is. patrick, who lives in brooklyn who i have known for a while, he lives right by the water, i guess his house was destroyed. my friend adam works in atlantic city. not anymore i guess. damn! oh btw my parents are still out of power. aunt sook and uncle bob have been helpful, and now that we have power we invite them to sleep here and shower here. they just stopped by my mom brought the kitchen sink! (not literally ha) she brought all kinds of food and stuff, the turkey they had in the freezer. we're gonna have a turkey dinner tonight my aunt and uncle are also coming over to eat, my parents are going to take shower here too. jimmy txted me he says he hasnt had a shower since monday! i said come take one here he doesnt have a car. and you know my car has been sitting still for a few weeks now i need to get it towed to the garage. well, people are upset about this marathon. here is the letter on facebook about it.

There has been a lot of talk about the NYC Marathon this weekend. Some people think it's a great idea to bring money into the city while others feel it is greedy knowing people are still in need of food, water, power, safety after the hurricane.

I am re-posting the best thing I've read all day thanks to my friend, Kitten Slatko, who saw Matty O'Halloran's status:

Millions of people descending u

pon a city that is destroyed is not returning to normalcy.

Athletes blocking avenues and bridges for an entire day while people sleep in cold dark rooms is not returning to normalcy.
Camera crews on every other corner using gas and generators to film a Kenyan jogging while dying patients are being carried down hospital stairs because their generators failed is not returning to normalcy.
Wrapping blankets around runners at a finish line while parents are wrapping sheets around their dead children is not returning to normalcy.

I am ashamed of whoever is responsible for letting this race still happen.

Sincerely,
Matt
((i saw patrick posted to tell the runners to NOT RUN for respect to those who lost family members, houses, power, food, cars etc. this is very saddening!
